Help: Call Number Messages (Staff)

In Process

This title has been received by the library, but is not yet on the library shelves. You may fill out the On Order/In Process Inquiry Form or inform the staff at the library's circulation desk that you would like to use it. The library will notify you when it is available.

NOTIS records with Class Type A or I migrated with phrases "On order" or "In process" in the call number field. These records will not display an Order Information status field because they already have text in the call number field. (Clicking on this phrase produces a list of everything else with In Process in the call number field.) Most of these titles will be corrected as the items are received and cataloged and the In Process message is replaced with a call number.

For items acquired after Voyager implementation, the bibliographic records for titles without order records (gifts, etc.) display in MadCat even though there is no relevant information. An "In Process" note is being added to the call number field for these titles.

On Order, Order Pending

The library has not yet received this title. You may fill out the On Order/In Process Inquiry Form or inform the staff at the library's circulation desk if you would like to use this title when it arrives. The library will notify you when it is available.

NOTIS records with Class Type A or I migrated with phrases "On order" or "In process" in the call number field. These records will not display an Order Information status field because they already have text in the Call Number field. (Clicking on this phrase produces a list of everything else with "On order" in the call number field.) Most of these titles will be corrected as the items are received and cataloged. The On order message will be misleading for titles which have been cancelled in NOTIS and for open migrated orders that have been received and not yet cataloged. New orders (post-migration) will not be affected. For pre-migration orders, we will need a report to identify the titles that have already been cancelled so that they can be edited for suppression.

Shelved by title

This title does not have a library call number or shelving number. It is shelved in alphabetical order by its title.

Temporarily Shelved at (library)

This title is available for your use. You will find this item in the library and location named in the "Temporarily Shelved" location rather than in the library and location listed on the "Location" line. If you do not find it on the shelf, you may place a search request at the library's circulation desk. You will be notified when the item is located.

The "Temporarily Shelved" status message contains the volume and copy numbers whenever there is a "Library Has" field in the holdings display. The message for serials and monographic sets varies slightly:

v. 1 c.1 Temporarily Shelved at (library) Volume 1 of copy 1 of this serial title is in a temporary location. The "v" for volume displays for serials.

1 c.1 Temporarily Shelved at (library) Volume 1 of copy 1 of this monographic set is in a temporary location. The "v" for volume does not display for monographic sets.

There are instances in which the information in the Temporary Location is not correct. The global suppression program suppressed records and holdings information based on the owning location; it did not suppress information connected to a temporary location. Two situations have been identified:

College Library Reserve Book Coll. Temporarily Shelved in ZZZZJunk: These items have been withdrawn from the collection. Send an email to Jim Seals to have this record withdrawn from MadCat.

Member library single journal issues: Some Member libraries barcode current issues of journals. When the issues are bound, the NOTIS item records were marked as withdrawn and a new barcode was assigned to the bound volume. If a temporary location was assigned to the item record, it now downloads into MadCat. The single issue displays as a temporary location. However, if you look at the Library Has statement, you will see that the volume is bound. Patrons should look for the bound volume in the owning library location.

Use the Internet link(s) in this record.

This title is available online for your use. To use it, scroll to the top of this catalog record and click on the Internet link. Please inform library staff if the link does not work.

The message "1 copy received as of (date)" appears in the Order field as soon as an item is received and paid for by library staff. This message no longer displays when the item is cataloged and a call number is placed in the call number field. However, databases do not have call numbers. Therefore, we have to enter something else in the call number field in order to suppress the "copy received" message. Direct library users back to the top of the record where the Internet Link is displayed.
