If No Status Information Is Displayed

This title may be available for your use. Inform the staff at the library's circulation desk if you do not find it on the shelf. They can check on its current status for you.

If this title is available online, click on the Internet link(s) in this record to access this title.

For Staff:

Status information does not display when a title does not have an item record. This situation includes:

  1. The item is on order. "On order" displays in the Order Information field or in the Call Number field. Fill out the On Order/In Process Inquiry Form.
  2. The item has been received, but is not yet cataloged. "1 Copy Received" displays in the Order Information field or "In Process" displays in the Call Number field. Fill out the On Order/In Process Inquiry Form.
  3. University Press titles arriving shelf ready take approximately 10 days to reach the shelf. Even if there is a call number in the record, fill out the On Order/In Process Inquiry Form.
  4. The item has been cataloged, but does not have an item record (for example, databases.) If the item is an electronic resource, direct the patron to the internet link in the record.
  5. The owning library uses manual circulation, rather than Voyager (for example, CCBC or the Ruth Ketterer Harris Collection). Circulation staff in the owning library can check their manual circulation files.
  6. Analytics for articles in journals that were created by the Land Tenure Center. There is no owning library given for these records. Instead the location field contains the phrase: Search MadCat for journal title location. The name of the journal is given in the "In" field in the catalog record. Search the name of the journal in MadCat to find out the library that owns the journal and its call number.

Checked Out - Due on (date)

This item is being used by someone else. You can recall it from the current user and we will notify you when it is available. If the word Requests: displays after the due date, this item has already been recalled by someone else. The number next to "Requests" indicates how many people have requested this item.

Example: Checked Out - Due on 02/23/2007 Requests: 2.

You may wish to submit an Article and Book Delivery request for items with requests on them.

For Staff:

The "Checked Out" status message contains the volume and copy numbers whenever there is a "Library Has" field in the holdings display. The message for serials and monographic sets varies slightly:

v. 1 c.1 Checked Out - Due on (date) Volume 1 of copy 1 of this serial title is checked out. The "v" for volume displays for serials.

1 c.1 Checked Out - Due on (date) Volume 1 of copy 1 of this monographic set is checked out. The "v" for volume does not display for monographic sets.

Being Digitized

In Transit - (date)

This title is being shipped from one library location to another library location. Inform staff at the library's circulation desk that you would like to use it. They will notify you when it is available.

For Staff:

Items that are discharged at one library and en-route to the owning library will have the "In Transit" message until the item is discharged by the owning library.

When books have been requested via UW System Borrowing, records will show the "In Transit" message while the books are en-route from the owning library to the pick-up library.

Newly processed books moving from the cataloging library to the owning library may have the "In Transit" message.

There are two other statuses which use the "In Transit" terminology-- "In Transit: Discharged" and "In Transit: On Hold". "In Transit: Discharged" means that a courtesy discharge has taken place, and the item is on its way back to the owning library. "In Transit: On Hold" means that the item is en route to a hold shelf at the location selected by the requesting patron.
